6 Things You Can Put On The Outside Of An Envelope
If you're sending letters as direct mail, some teaser copy on the outside of your envelopes can help you get more opened.
1. Use A Headline: Headlines are used to interrupt and engage prospects. So put your most powerful, well articulated headline on the outside of the envelope and get them eager to read your letter before they ever open it.
2. Customer Testimonials: These can be powerful, just make sure you choose testimonials that are specific and hot button oriented. Avoid all bland and generic "We love XYZ Corp. They're the best!" testimonials. They don't mean anything to your prospects, and could actually work against you.
3. Awards, Associations, or Endorsements: If you've got them, flaunt them! They obviously build confidence and overcome skepticism.
4. Tell Them What They'll Find Inside: "Inside: Never Get Beat Up On Price Again!" Don't make prospects guess what the pay-off is. Give them a good reason to tear open the envelope and start reading.
5. State The Bonus Offer: "Yours FREE: Choice of three FREE bonuses!" Never underestimate the power of an offer to boost open rates. If you have something great to give away (and we hope you do) say it loud and clear.
6. The Offer Expiration Date. Give your prospects a reason to worry that they're going to miss out on a terrific opportunity if they don't open your letter.
